Sadie Family Wines, ‘T Voetpad 2017

Tasted 18th March 2019

A field blend of semillon (both blanc and gris!) chenin blanc, palomino and muscat of Alexandria (i.e. whatever is old and happens to be around – and it works perfectly well as a varietal selection process); all are at least 80 years old – some nearly 120.  This is proper old vine stuff.  Beautiful lemon shading to gold.  Quite intense aromas, fragrant and with a marzipan solids complexity.  The palate is beautifully, beautifully textured; this is the thing you notice most about it – and maybe a key product older vines.  Lovely spicy, marzipan and almond character with some oak that is very carefully integrated. Great length.  A lovely, lovely wine.
