A group of us were discussing carbonic maceration in Rioja while we were in a restaurant, and our guide ordered this wine to show us what it was like. It’s a typical carbonic maceration wine. Palish cherry-red with a hint, even, of blue; fresh, light, cherry fruit flavours. Very slight tannin, but evident alcohol (13.5%). Simple, but very drinkable – and includes 5% viura. This is the wine which they would drink with pintxos – the local basque version of tapas.
